An excellent development opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed individual to gain specialised oncology skills in a clinical role. This is a permanent post based on the Children’s Day Units at the Sutton site.

We are looking for a motivated pharmacy technician to join our diverse Clinical Pharmacy team to develop and deliver an advanced, patient-centred medicines optimisation service.  

You will integrate into our extremely well-developed ward based multidisciplinary team assisting in medication reconciliation, patient counselling and will facilitate discharges of children’s day-unit patients in a timely manner with the correct medication and advice.

Applicants must, be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council, hold or working towards a Medicine Optimisation qualification and the accredited checking pharmacy technician qualification.

 

The Royal Marsden's Oak Centre for Children & Young People (CYP) is one of the largest comprehensive children and young people’s cancer centres in Europe. We treat a range of paediatric and young adult cancers in patients from 1 to 24 years of age.

  • Assist with the recruitment and selection of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants when required.
  • To undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to ensure a high level of competency in carrying out the tasks required and when appropriate to facilitate the CPD of other pharmacy staff.
  • To commit to flexible working patterns (late evenings, weekends & bank holidays) when required to meet the needs of the patients and service
  • To carry out any other reasonable duty as requested.
  • Receive prescriptions from in and outpatient areas from nurses, HCA’s, etc, checking the email prescription inbox twice daily and actioning the requests communicating with the OCCYP Daycare pharmacist and CYP medical/ANP prescribers to ensure completion of requests in a timely fashion. 
  • To develop, maintain and manage the safe, efficient, and cost-effective supply of medicines to patients on children’s day units and inpatient wards.
  • To deliver quality care to patients at day unit level through efficient medicines optimisation by individual patient dispensing and patient/carers education on medicines.
  • To support with clinical audits, data collection and implementation of developments to enhance the needs of the patient.
  • To support the Lead Pharmacist for CYP with the delivery of any service developments associated with medicine optimisation pharmacy service to meet local and national requirements.

  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council

  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
  • Medicines Optimisation qualification (HEE LaSE) or equivalent
  • Practice Supervisor Course or equivalent

Experience

  • Significant work experience (post qualification) in hospital pharmacy
  • Awareness of training competency requirements for technical staff (Level 2 & 3)
  • Experience in training and supervision of trainees

  • Experience of final checking complex prescriptions e.g., oncology, paediatrics
  • Experience of team leader or suitable management
  • Working knowledge/experience of writing SOPs
  • Oncology pharmacy experience
  • Experience of dealing with Children and Young People
