Job overview
This is a substantive Consultant appointment which attracts a Recruitment and Retention Premium (RRP) of £20,000, payable as a recruitment incentive for new starters, subject to Trust policy and specific terms and conditions.
The Recruitment and Retention Premium will be paid over a three‑year period as follows:
£10,000 on taking up post
£5,000 at the commencement of year 2
£5,000 at the commencement of year 3
This provides a total value of £20,000 over three years, subject to continued eligibility.
In addition, the post is eligible for relocation expenses of up to £8,000, in line with Trust relocation policy and subject to eligibility criteria.
Applicants wishing to claim relocation support must declare this at interview, as relocation support cannot be approved or applied retrospectively.
Recruitment and Retention Premia and relocation expenses are non‑pensionable, subject to ongoing eligibility, and will be paid in accordance with Trust policies in place at the time of appointment. The Trust reserves the right to amend or withdraw recruitment incentives in line with NHS Employers guidance and local policy. Any repayment provisions applicable in the event of early termination of employment will be set out in the written terms and conditions issued on appointment.

Main duties of the job
There are opportunities for someone with an enthusiasm for leadership to become involved in all other aspects of career development such as medical management and research.
As a training and teaching Trust there are opportunities to teach postgraduate psychiatric and GP trainees and undergraduates from Birmingham and Grenada Universities and newly formed links with Aston Medical School. Links to local Universities have always been strong and input to Birmingham and Wolverhampton Universities is welcomed.

Black Country Older Adult Services
Older Adult Mental Health Services deliver multidisciplinary inpatient and community care for older adults with mental health conditions, underpinned by a person‑centred and holistic model of care.
Services operate across all four Black Country localities, with inpatient provision based in Walsall at the Dorothy Pattison Hospital Older Adult Unit, and at the newly refurbished Edward Street Hospital. These units provide specialist care for older adults with a range of mental health conditions, including functional illness and dementia.
Exciting new developments include the Older Adult Hospital at Home Team and In-Reach to Care Home Team, enabling assessment and treatment in community settings and supporting admission avoidance where appropriate.

Applications are invited for a full time Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry based at Bushey Fields Hospital Dudley to join 2 existing Consultants.
This existing post is within a well-established supportive service working both on the in-patient wards and in the community, having retained the Continuity of Care model.
The Consultant will lead a team of other doctors; CPNs; Social Workers and Occupational Therapists, and together with the existing workforce cover the communities of Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen in the Black Country.
We are also developing new models and methods of working which will include liaison to primary care within the MCP model, and have developed an Old Age Home Treatment Team.
