Matron for Antenatal Clinic, Community and Caseload Midwifery

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Maternity Matron to lead and manage the Antenatal Clinic, Community Midwifery, and Caseload Midwifery teams. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring high standards of care, service improvement, and strategic development in line with NHS maternity transformation initiatives, including Better Births and the NHS Long-Term Plan.
The post holder will provide strong operational and professional leadership, ensuring safe, high-quality, and compassionate maternity care. They will drive innovation, workforce development, and collaborative working across the hospital and community settings, supporting continuity of care models and reducing health inequalities.

- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Antenatal Clinic, Community Midwifery, and Caseload Midwifery teams, ensuring excellence in patient care.

- Lead on workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and professional development to build a resilient, skilled maternity workforce.
- Support the implementation and sustainability of continuity of carer models, ensuring equity and improved outcomes for women and birthing people.
- Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring efficient service delivery and cost-effectiveness.

- To have overall operational responsibility for a defined clinical area
- To directly-line manage the midwifery staff of the defined clinical area
- On a daily basis ensure that the clinical area is being co-ordinated effectively and be highly visible within the defined clinical area for staff, patients and visitors alike
- Liaise with the wider Trust network and ensure integration of the real time patient feedback system within the defined area of responsibility.
- To act in the absence of the Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery
- Responsible for effective communication systems within the defined clinical area and ensure effective and efficient team working within the multi-disciplinary framework.
- To manage resources effectively and efficiently within the agreed budget allocation.

Experience

- Proven leadership experience in quality improvement, audit, and/or project management
- Operational Management experience in an acute hospital setting
- Experience in leading and implementing change within maternity services
- Experience in managing performance, capability, sickness, grievance and disciplinary processes
- Experience in staff recruitment, appraisal and personal development planning
