Applications are welcome for a Specialty Doctor in Adult Mental Health (AMH) working in the PICU located in The Willows at Highbury Hospital, Nottingham.
This is a fixed term post covering a secondment and comprises of 10 PAs, split into 8 Direct Clinical Care sessions and 2 Supporting Professional Activities sessions.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

The Willows is a busy 10-bedded male ward. All doors are anti-barricade and the unit is accessed via an airlock. There is a seclusion room and a de-escalation area. Referrals are taken from the whole of the Nottinghamshire Healthcare catchment area. The team also gatekeep all PICU referrals, providing support and advice to the acute wards. There is a good level of staffing with shifts of 7:7:6 and 40% of staff are qualified. In addition to the band 5 nurses, there is a band 7 ward manager, 4 band 6 clinical team leaders and the remaining staff are band 2 and 3. The MDT also consists of a psychologist, input from the occupational therapy department and a full-time activity coordinator, a CT3 and when allocated an ST. We are supportive of staff development and have a Non-medical Prescriber, and a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

- In-patient work on Willows (PICU), managing a total of 10 beds and jointly working with consultant, team manager and MDT.
- Management of complex cases with management of acute behavioural disturbance, including management of physical health.
- Clinical participation and engagement with MDT and supporting ward processes, including participation in and running ward reviews, formulation meetings and providing supervision to junior medical staff.
- Role in assessment of admissions, PICU gatekeeping and referral to other services.
- Care plan, risk and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
- Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership working including liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies.
- Participation in seclusion reviews.
- Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act implementation.
- Attending tribunals and preparing the required reports.
- It is expected that the ethos enshrined within the MHA of working with patients and their families and carers to give dignified, individualised care, providing choice and autonomy in the least restrictive manner is core to the doctor’s practise.
