Salary: £49,387 - £56,515 per annum pro rata

- We have an exciting opportunity to join our oncology team as Clinical Nurse Specialist for Oncology Upper Gastro-intestinal Clinical Nurse Specialist. This a newly created, fixed term position for 12 months. Secondment opportunities will be considered.
- As the CNS for Oncology Upper Gastro-intestinal Clinical Nurse Specialist you will be responsible in the provision of expert, coordinated and holistic support for adults from diagnosis, treatment and living beyond cancer.

- The clinical nurse specialist will be a core member of the multi-disciplinary team in providing optimum quality care to oncology Upper Gastro-intestinal patients throughout their care pathway including the overarching responsibility for the support of patients living with and beyond cancer.
- The post holder will provide specialist nursing advice, care and support to patients who undergoing oncological treatment for lung cancer and will have knowledge and skills to work autonomously in manging their caseload.
- The post holder will require leadership and management skills to deliver effective and efficient standards of care in the coordination of the service through their clinical expertise and knowledge.

- Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers within the speciality of Upper Gastro-intestinal oncology, working with the Oncology teams to provide specialist nursing care and collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams to ensure best practice and optimal outcomes for patients.
- Manage a caseload of patients, as appropriate within the speciality, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
- Delivers planned clinical work within the speciality, including Practitioner led clinics & other speciality specific commitments, effectively articulating a clinical perspective on a patient’s condition with colleagues.
- Act as role model, clinical expert and advocate for service users within the Trust and externally.
- To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training.
- Increasing productivity and efficiencies within the unit by providing nurse-led services and providing early intervention to prevent unplanned admissions.
- Deliver evidence based individualised and personalised care through holistic needs assessment, care planning and evaluation of care and all care intervention. To discuss all treatment options for the given cancer with knowledge and expertise to enable patients to make an informed choice.
- Support, assist and encourage the multi-disciplinary team in resolving complex patient problems, by the provision of new and innovative models of case management.
- Provide information and psychological support, respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients.
- Communicates highly complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff.
- Ensure high-quality care through evidence-based, personalised treatment, supported by a comprehensive assessment of needs, thoughtful care planning, and continuous evaluation of all interventions. This will necessitate high levels of autonomy and advocacy.
- Acts as a key driver for service improvement/ development.
Managerial / Leadership
- Provide direction and clinical leadership, working in partnership with the specialist team and multi professional team to enhance standards and best practice of care across the service.
- Initiate projects to raise the profile of the service and team members.
- Participate with the management of risks and incident management and complaints within the service.
- To actively promote the use of Friends and Family cards to gain patient feedback and develop any necessary action plan.
- Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally to maintain and develop expert level of knowledge in the speciality.
- Provide a high level of professional leadership in the development, management and promotion of the service and the team.
- Participate in appraisal for designated staff within the oncology teams
- To identify outcome measures which illustrate the quality of the service with a particular emphasis on establishing ways to show patient related outcome measures.
- A visible, accessible, and assertive clinical expert to which staff and users can turn to for assistance, expert advice and support.
- Influence and develop policy making and clinical guidelines internally and externally, necessary to support the specialist nursing service.

- Provides educational support for healthcare providers and healthcare consumers.
- Develop and maintain links with professional networks.
Research and Audit
- Ensure clinical effectiveness by appraising current research and applying to practice where relevant.

- Involvement in team clinical effectiveness, particularly those involving patient pathways.
- Coordinates the development, implementation and review of nursing policies, standard operating procedures relating to colorectal services ensuring evidence based.
