Job overview

This vacancy is advertised as a time-limited opportunity is expected to be undertaken on a secondment basis.

Here at University Hospitals Sussex we have an opportunity for a Clinical Physiologist to join our friendly Respiratory & Sleep Team here at our Community Diagnostics Centre at Southlands Hospital.

The position will be on a Fixed Term basis to cover Maternity for 12 months.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Clinical Respiratory & Sleep Physiologist will work as an independent practitioner in the newly formed, Community Diagnostics Centre at Southlands Hospital.

The post will work alongside the service lead, and wider Sleep/Lung Function Team across the other hospital sites offering high quality specialist diagnostics and treatment for a variety of respiratory and sleep disorders for patients in the West Sussex area.

·         To plan and undertake a range of simple, specialist, complex and highly complex diagnostic assessments with a considerable degree of responsibility and autonomy as outlined below performed in accordance with ARTP or ERS/ATS criteria where applicable

·         To be able to analyse, interpret a large range of highly complex diagnostic tests and to initiate appropriate treatment while regularly monitoring patient progress.

·         To maintain up to date clinical knowledge

·         To obtain accurate and informative results.

·         To provide clinical supervision & management (including appraisals) for junior staff, as delegated by Clinical/Service Lead

·         To maintain waiting lists times to within local and national targets

·         To be responsible for own professional development and professional registration

·         To educate and give general advice to clinical staff.

·         To demonstrate care and respect, for both patients and fellow staff members

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.

This will be a clinical role performing diagnostic testing and reporting within the respiratory and sleep services at Southlands Hospital 

Including

  • Measurement of dynamic lung volumes
  • Measurement of static lung volumes by whole body plethysmography 
  • Airways resistance measurements using the body plethysmograph
  •  Reversibility testing
  • Gas transfer measurements 
  • FeNO measurements 

As well as Ventilation treatments.

There will also be a degree of managerial and operational responsibilities as outlined in the job description

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria
  • BSc Clinical Physiology/ Science or equivalent
  • ARTP Part I and Part II Assessments/ Practitioner examinations or equivalent experience
  • Current professional membership regulated by RCCP or HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/Management Skills
  • Multichannel sleep study experience
