This undergraduate medical education Clinical Teaching Fellow in Rheumatology and similar posts in other specialties have been established to enhance the teaching of medical students in the Trust and City St George’s Medical School. The majority of the post holder’s time will be spent on undergraduate teaching activities. The remainder of the week will be used either for clinical work to develop the individual’s career, or to complete a research project. The post holder will teach and co-ordinate students across all the acute services to ensure that students are able to achieve their learning objectives. There will be close liaison with the other Clinical Teaching Fellows through the CTF network to enhance the coordination of undergraduate clinical teaching of medical students.

The successful candidate will be based within Rheumatology and have named educational supervisor for their post.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the development and delivery of clinical teaching to medical students on the St George’s University MBBS programmes. As well as scoping and designing the placement structure for the coming academic year when Rheumatology is moving from a timetable where small numbers of students visit for short activities such as joining a clinic alongside scheduled didactic teaching and changing to a Home Firm set-up within Medicine for the new MBBS course structure.
Currently, Rheumatology learning activities are part of the Penultimate Year (4th Yr) specialties attachment taking place 8 times per year. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the teaching components which consists of lectures, small group including patient perspective sessions and case based workshops.
The successful candidate will also deliver Rheumatology clinical teaching for students on ward based placements to help blend holistic care principles with other parts of their clinical experience mirroring real world practice.
Administrative tasks will include timetabling and liaising with Consultant staff to maximise the use of clinical resources across the Trust.
The post holder will be expected to liaise with similar post holders in identifying deficiencies and opportunities for clinical teaching across the Trust.
