This post is an opportunity to work within the Neuro-Endocrine Tumor (NET) disease group. This post involves working as a physician under consultant supervision in a NET outpatient clinic on a Friday morning. These clinics see a combination of new and follow up patients for review, undergoing chemotherapy and targeted therapies.

The duties and responsibilities of the role, which may be adjusted in the light of changing/developing priorities, include:

• Attendance and review of patients in weekly NET clinics on a Friday Mornings.

• Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of NET malignancies through attendance at NET clinics and reading relevant publications, as appropriate.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high‑quality consultant‑led care across 7 days. This includes participation in planned weekend and weekday clinical activity to support safe, timely decision‑making and continuity of care for patients.

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, looking after more than 64,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 25% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. 
 
We are the largest radiotherapy provider in the NHS with one in 20 treatments delivered at The Christie. We have up to 15 linear accelerators operating across our network of sites.  We operate the largest chemotherapy unit in the UK on our main site and treatments are also provided at 13 other networked sites, and in patients homes. And as a specialist tertiary surgical centre, we focus on rare cancers, complex procedures, and multidisciplinary approaches to cancer surgery, specialising in colorectal, peritoneal, gynaecological, urological and plastic surgery.
 
We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We have been named by the UK’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), as one of the best hospitals providing opportunities for patients to participate in clinical research studies, with more than 800 studies open at any time, caring for over 3,000 patients.

The roles will suit a GPs with a keen interest in gaining further experience in the field of NET through attendance at a once-weekly outpatient clinic for new patient's on a Friday morning.

The disease sites treated include Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (composed of hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreas cancer and biliary tract cancers [cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder and ampullary cancers]). The group has an active clinical research program with close links to basic research laboratories in the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute.
 
There is an established record of clinical research in the NET disease group, and the group have an international reputation in the treatment of advanced NET malignancies. 
There are around 400 new HPB/NET referrals received per year for consideration of systemic treatment (chemotherapy and targeted therapies).  The post holder will acquire experience in the oncological management of patients diagnosed with NET malignancies
.
The Consultants include Professor Dr Richard Hubner, Dr Mairéad McNamara, Victoria Foy, Nadina Tinsley and Alicia Conway.  There are also clinical fellows, a specialist registrar, nurse clinicians, a pharmacist, clinical nurse specialists, research nurses, project managers and clinical trial administrators working within the NET disease group.

The role will be responsible for:
Attendance and review of patients in weekly NET clinic (Friday Mornings).The duties and responsibilities of the role, which may be adjusted in the light of changing/developing priorities, include:

• Attendance and review of patients in weekly NET clinics (Friday Morning's).

• Completion of and maintenance of Good Clinical Practice Certification (regulatory requirement for clinical trial participation, if appropriate).

• Become familiar with ongoing NET clinical trials, as appropriate (for context when seeing outpatients in clinic).

• Provide a point of contact for General Practitioners as a community expert in the field of NET.

• Potential for setting up and coordinating training days for General Practitioners in the specialty of NET, if desired.

• Potential for maintenance and update of educational material/training for General Practitioners, if desired.

• Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of NET through attendance at conferences, as appropriate.
