This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practitioner who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about clinical excellence, education, and service development. You'll work alongside Consultant MSK Radiologists, Orthopaedic Consultants, and multidisciplinary teams, providing a comprehensive range of advanced MSK ultrasound examinations and image-guided interventions across both our Royal Surrey Hospital and community sites.
Main duties of the job
As an autonomous advanced practitioner, you'll have the opportunity to influence the direction of our service by developing new pathways, supporting one-stop orthopaedic clinics, and contributing to research, audit, and evidence-based practice. You'll also inspire the next generation of sonographers by leading education, mentoring colleagues, and helping to deliver high-quality MSK ultrasound training programmes.
Our department is equipped with state-of-the-art GE logic 10 systems in spacious, ergonomically designed scanning rooms, providing an excellent environment to deliver outstanding care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Act as an autonomous practitioner whilst maintaining a close working relationship with MSK Consultant Radiologists and key referring Clinicians to develop an innovative and leading edge MSK Ultrasound service
To support the effective planning, development, organisation and delivery of MSK and specific, well defined sub-specialty ultrasound training for sonographers and medical staff working collaboratively with the MSK Consultant Radiologists.
The post holder will work flexibly across four Trust sites and participate in a 7-day shift-based service, including weekends and extended hours as required. They will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver an efficient, responsive service and contribute to service development, clinical governance, education and continuous quality improvement while maintaining the highest standards of professional practice.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Hold a first degree in Physiotherapy or Radiography (BSc or DCR)
- Post Graduate qualification at Masters level – achieving the following or equivalent : MSc / PG Cert MSK Ultrasound (CASE accredited
- Postgraduate management qualification or equivalent evidenced experience at senior level.
- Minimum of 5 years as a Band 8a Ultra sonographer or equivalent evidenced experience at this level
- HCPC registered as a Physiotherapist or Radiographer.
- Documented evidence of CPD
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Highly specialist MSK ultrasound knowledge must be up to date and underpinned by evidenced theoretical and practical experience.
- Experience of work as an MSK sonographer within an NHS radiology setting
- Demonstrate an understanding of current issues in radiography and MSK ultrasound
- Ability to effectively train other members of staff including all medical & clinical staff at undergraduate & postgraduate levels.
- Evidence of enhanced computer skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding and experience of working with performance objectives and organizational targets
- Demonstrate an understanding of working under PGDs and experience in OGD documentation
- Member of relevant professional body
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of first author publications in peer reviewed publications
- Experience at teaching in university /postgraduate setting
