Job overview
We are looking to recruit an HCPC-registered, Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist to provide parental leave cover for a fixed term period of 12 months.
The post holder will be part of the Clinical Health Psychology and Neuropsychology Department, based at Charing Cross Hospital within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, which includes the Northwest London Regional Neurosciences Centre.
The role includes providing specialist neuropsychological assessment and intervention in our outpatient neuropsychological assessment service, which receives referrals from a wide range of specialist neurology and neurosurgery clinics, including cognitive disorders and dementia, traumatic brain injury, movement disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuro-oncology, infectious diseases, as well as general clinics. There may also be opportunities to provide neuropsychological assessment and intervention within acute inpatient settings
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based within the Clinical Health Psychology and Neuropsychology outpatient department and will provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessment for patients presenting with a wide range of neurological disorders referred from specialist neurology and neurosurgery clinics.
The post holder will also contribute to the organisation and delivery of a specialist intervention pathway providing psychological interventions for patients presenting with mental health difficulties associated with Parkinson’s disease.
In addition to direct clinical assessment and intervention, the post provides opportunities for involvement in service development, staff consultation and training, and research and audit.
Specialist supervision is provided by a senior Clinical Neuropsychologist who is on the BPS regulated Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN

Training and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Post-graduate doctoral level training or its equivalent) in Clinical Psychology leading to eligibility for Chartered Status by the British Psychological Society
- Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in Neuropsychology
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a neuropsychology setting.
- Experience of conducting comprehensive neuropsychological assessments autonomously.
- Experience of neuropsychological assessment report writing to a high standard
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of adapting psychological interventions for clients with cognitive difficulties.
- Experience of conducting cross cultural neuropsychological assessments via an interpreter.
- Experience of the application of clinical neuropsychology in different cultural contexts.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Skills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological and psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
- Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
Desirable criteria
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialized psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of evidence based psychological therapies for people with Parkinson’s disease

- Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
