Band 8a

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

We are dedicated to being an outstanding place to work and will work with you to get the best experience. We know flexible working is not a one size fits all and will mean something different to everyone. We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.

Trosolwg o'r swydd

A new position has arisen within the Respiratory department at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital for a full time AA & ILD Lead Nurse. This post combines the delivery of clinical care within the Allergy service and the Severe Ashma service -both NHSE nationally commissioned services, with leadership of the CNS Team. The postholder should be highly specialised in either Allergy, or Asthma and dual specialisation is not required. The clinical aspect of the role will be tailored to their needs.

Barts Allergy Centre provides regional tertiary–care services including: day case food and drug allergen challenge testing service and out-patient allergen desensitisation treatments including sub-cutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and sub-lingual immunotherapy (SLIT). A joint nasal allergy clinic with ENT is also held monthly at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital for the most complex patients. Specialist dietitian lists with participation in food challenges; dedicated specialised Pharmacist clinics leading the SLIT pathway; and close working with Immunology, Paediatric Allergy & Dermatology are all features of our service. A multi-disciplinary team meeting occurs weekly.

The Barts Severe Asthma Service is one of three regional units (Hubs) within London . In north central and north east London, severe asthma care is provided through a Hub-and-Spoke network (North Central and East London Severe Asthma Service) of which Bart’s Hospital as the commissioned centre is the Hub.  We provide expert coordinated care for patients in the region with difficult to control asthma, with detailed patient assessments leading to targeted specialist therapies to improve asthma control for our patients. We have a large MDT also including: speech & language therapist, ENT surgeon, dietitian, physiotherapist and psychologist.

The post-holder would provide leadership and vision to develop the current nurse-led services, with the aim of future expansion in nurse-led clinics for specific groups of patients within Allergy and Severe Asthma ,allowing CNS-led care s autonomously within the relevant multidisciplinary team(s).

They would work in partnership with the Consultants and multi-disciplinary team to build evidence- based pathways. Within this their role will include extending scope of nursing practice and developing an expert level of professional autonomy and accountability in the provision of such care.

They would also provide governance in monitoring the quality of nurse-led care, provide mentorship for the nursing team, as well as leadership in quality improvement projects.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.
