What You'll Do 

As a Trainee Advanced Practitioner, you will progressively develop and demonstrate capabilities across the four pillars of advanced practice as described within the NHS England Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Practice in England (2025): 

You will develop the capability to work autonomously while remaining an integral member of the wider cardiology team, assessing, investigating, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients throughout their inpatient journey.  

Clinical Practice 

Develop advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning and decision-making skills. 

Undertake comprehensive patient assessments and contribute to the investigation, diagnosis and management of patients with acute and chronic cardiology conditions. 

Deliver safe, evidence-based care within agreed clinical pathways, protocols and governance frameworks. 

Work towards autonomous practice whilst receiving appropriate clinical supervision and support. 

Leadership and Management 

Contribute to the development, improvement and transformation of cardiology services. 

Demonstrate effective leadership within the multidisciplinary team. 

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation projects that enhance patient outcomes and experience. 

Education 

Support the learning and development of colleagues and students within the clinical environment. 

Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice. 

Share knowledge and promote best practice across professional groups. 

Research 

Critically appraise evidence and apply research findings to clinical practice. 

Participate in audit, service evaluation and research activities within the specialty. 

Contribute to the development of evidence-based practice and innovation within cardiology services. 

With increasing autonomy throughout the training programme, you will become a key member of the cardiology team, developing the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required for advanced level practice. 

What We're Looking For 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable and highly motivated clinician with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. 

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate: 

Current professional registration with an appropriate healthcare regulatory body. 

Significant post-registration clinical experience, ideally within Cardiology, acute medicine, critical care or another relevant specialty. 

Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to lifelong learning. 

The ability to work effectively within a busy and evolving clinical environment. 

Strong clinical reasoning, decision-making and problem-solving skills. 

A commitment to developing advanced practice capabilities and undertaking Master's level study.

This is a developmental training post in which the successful candidate will deliver advanced-level care under the supervision of experienced Advanced Practitioners and designated medical supervisors, whilst undertaking a recognised MSc in Advanced Practice.  

The post holder will develop the knowledge, skills and professional capabilities required to provide expert clinical management and care for patients within Cardiology. Throughout the programme, you will complete an advanced practice portfolio evidencing achievement of the NHS England advanced practice capabilities and specialty-specific competencies.

The Cardiology Advanced Practitioner ward team provides a seven-day service, working between 07:30 and 20:30, delivering a hybrid model of care alongside the medical team to support cardiology inpatients across their hospital stay.
