Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to join the Workforce Services team, part of the People and Culture group.  Workforce Services offer a customer facing, first line advisory service for line managers and staff on a wide range of subjects, including terms and conditions of service, pay issues, and general enquiries.

The role also covers regulatory issues such as visa expiries and liaising with our large overseas workforce to ensure the Trust is compliant with Home Office legislation. Workforce Services officers play an important part in ensuring staff pay is correct and managed in line with the payroll service providers schedule and needs to be an expert in managing complex changes and calculations as required.

The role requires a great deal of attention to detail and accuracy in every aspect and successful candidate will need to offer a compassionate and caring attitude towards service users, often in difficult circumstances. This is a multi tasking role that requires a great deal of flexibility and the ability to manage multiple priorities at once.

Main duties of the job

The Workforce Services Officer provides a high quality, efficient and responsive transactional and first line advisory service to Trust managers and staff. Providing advice and support on a range of transactional and operational issues across all areas of the Trust for non-medical workforce issues.

The Workforce Services Officer is responsible for updating the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) for any approved changes to staff record and ensuring the correct authorization processes have been followed and is within the framework of the national terms and conditions for Agenda for Change.

The Workforce Services Officer is required to analyse complex payroll queries and liaise with the Trusts payroll provider to resolve such issues and ensure Trust staff salary payments are correct.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.

They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
