Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Ward 21, paediatric medical ward at The James Cook University Hospital to employ a Clinical Support Worker higher level. The role  is to support the nursing team in providing direct patient care to children and young people. The role also involves some administrative work.

Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)

Care certificate

Level 3 vocational qualification

or

Short courses and completion of

competency workbook equivalent

to Level 3 in a range of patient and

clinical care duties

and/or

Equivalent knowledge and

experience in a range of clinical

care duties equivalent to Level 3;

- Theoretical knowledge

- Experience of a range of

care and related procedures

- clinical observations

- knowledge of relevant

legislation

Main duties of the job

We care for children from birth until 18 years. We care for children from numerous specialities and a family centred approach to care is essential.

We are a team committed to delivering and maintaining high quality patient care and are looking to attract a Health Care Assistant who shares our goal. In return we will support ongoing professional development and provide regular training opportunities.

Experience in health care is preferred, with experience working with children and young people desirable. Applicants must demonstrate effective communication skills, be enthusiastic, well motivated and share a commitment to team working.

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in health or social care.
  • Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalation of changes or findings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an NHS care role.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication & active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles & methods of communication.
  • Timekeeping, planning & prioritisation skills.
  • Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records & other Trust systems.
  • Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient / service user interactions and observations and metrics.
  • Ability to demonstrate the importance of holistic person-centred care & related procedures
  • Understanding of the importance of robust, accurate, clear, timely documentation.
  • Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective teamwork.
  • Awareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or Maths & English GCSE A-C/4-9 or Maths & English O Level/GCE A-C or Maths & English CSE Grade 1 or NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE (https://www.enic-naric.net)
  • Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experi-ence in a range of clinical care du-ties equivalent to Level 3. - Theoretical knowledge - Experience of a range of care and related procedures - clinical observations - knowledge of relevant legislation
