Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with an Interest in Colposcopy and Vulval Disease

Location: Newham University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust

Contract: Substantive | Full Time (10 PAs)

 

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery and development of high-quality gynaecological services within one of the largest NHS trusts in the country. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing specialist colposcopy and vulval services, while supporting the wider obstetrics and gynaecology department in delivering excellent patient-centred care.

About the Role

The post holder will:

  • Contribute to specialist colposcopy services in accordance with national standards and guidelines.
  • Support the development of vulval disease services and multidisciplinary care pathways.
  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota.
  • Contribute to teaching and training
  • Work collaboratively across Barts Health to enhance women's health and patient outcomes.

We are looking for a consultant who is:

  • On the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.
  • Demonstrate expertise in colposcopy, with appropriate accreditation and experience.
  • Have experience in the assessment and management of vulval disorders.
  • Show a commitment to multidisciplinary working, innovation and service improvement.
  • Enthusiastic about teaching, research and supporting development of future healthcare professionals

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

General obstetrics and gynaecology, coordination of labour ward activities in collaboration with midwifery leaders and related clinical governance issues. You will participate in 1:21 on call rota covering obstetrics. The on-call consultant will be routinely expected to be resident on site until 22.00h, and at any time during their shifts depending on clinical needs.

 

1.    Clinical Care

The duties outlined below cover the main duties of the post and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The aim is to provide a high quality, accessible consultant-led services;

-       To be integral to providing acute obstetrics services and fetal medicine services.

-       To take an active role in developing clinical governance initiatives, participate in multidisciplinary audit, clinical effectiveness initiatives and risk management.

-       To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients’ Charter and the local purchasers’ contracts.

-       To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.

-       To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work with the specialties, working closely and regularly with the consultant medical staff.

-       To provide leadership in teaching and clinical research.

-       To be up to date in statutory and mandatory training programs.

-       To maintain ‘Good Medical Practice’ and be in ‘good standing’ with the RCOG.

It is expected that the post-holder will work closely with colleagues from other specialties within the hospital and in primary care.

  • CCST/CCT (or equivalent), or within 6 months of a date, or entry on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  • ATSM/SITM/Equivalent in Colposcopy.

Experience

  • Wide experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

  • Quality improvement projects and/or research related to Obstetrics / Gynaecology
  • Experience of the UK healthcare system
