An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the SDEC at St Mary’s Hospital as a Senior Charge Nurse and unit leader. 

You need to be passionate about providing high quality, emergency same day care in this fast paced, evolving and exciting area of acute emergency care. You must have excellent communication skills and be excited about being part of an innovative nursing team.

This is an exciting time to join Same Day Emergency Care as we increase the numbers of patients attending the service. We see approximately 60-70 patients a day on each site, with varying presentations including renal colic, DVT, cellulitis, low risk chest pain and many more. We work closely with the Emergency Department, taking many patients from the Urgent Care Centre and ED triage, as well as patients from General Practice, London Ambulance Service and 111.

As Senior Charge Nurse for SDEC, you will lead the delivery of high-quality, safe and compassionate care, support the implementation of new ways of working, and collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes and experience.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical expertise in emergency nursing, excellent patient assessment skills and sound management knowledge. They will provide visible, consistent leadership, communicate effectively and build positive working relationships across the department and wider organisation.

  • To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the clinical setting and Trust wide.
  • Maintain and promote effective communication both verbally and in writing with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and other Wards or Departments, including formal presentation of information relating to your service. Communication will take place using formal and informal methods.
  • Work within the clinical area, managing episodes of care as own/joint/ shared caseload, discharging patients as per protocol.
  • Maintain and update own clinical expertise and contribute as role model to ensure the delivery of nursing care is at highest possible level to meet patient care.
  • To be actively involved in the development of Trust policies and procedures, providing specialist input, leading their implementation and reinforce their use.
  • To take the lead in ensuring compliance to Trust policies and procedures amongst the multi-disciplinary team.
  •  Have continuing responsibility for the provision of a suitable, clean, uncluttered and safe environment for the physical and psychological wellbeing of staff, patients/clients and their relatives.
