About the role

Ready to take your clinical coding career into a more flexible, future-focused role? At CHKS, you’ll use your expertise to support NHS and independent healthcare providers across the UK, working on varied assignments that make a real difference to data quality, patient information and service improvement.

This is a modern, predominantly home-based role where you’ll be trusted to work independently, supported by an experienced clinical coding team, and encouraged to keep developing. You will be part of an experienced, collaborative clinical coding team, contribute to AI-supported coding innovation and play a visible role in improving coding quality and healthcare information.

What you will be doing

•      Deliver accurate, timely and high-quality clinical coding services for NHS and independent healthcare clients.

•      Work predominantly from home, with a laptop and additional monitor supplied.

•      Undertake occasional onsite coding at a local private hospital, typically 1–2 days per week depending on client need, with travel expenses paid from home.

•      Contribute to CHKS’ AI-supported clinical coding programme and help shape smarter, more efficient ways of working.

•      Raise and resolve coding queries or source documentation issues with the client NHS lead or other nominated contact in a clear, professional and constructive way.

•      Work closely with CHKS Clinical Coding Team Leaders, sharing queries, insight and learning across the team.

•      Support a variety of remote coding assignments delivered by CHKS, giving you the opportunity to work with a broad range of clients and specialties.

•      Help maintain complete, timely, accurate and consistent clinical coding, contributing to high-quality information for patient care, reporting and service improvement.

•      Apply national clinical coding standards, conventions and procedures as defined by the Coding Classifications Service.

•      Represent CHKS positively by providing a professional, responsive and client-focused coding service.

•      Keep your skills current through regular remote workshops and occasional in-person team training.

What you’ll bring (Essential Criteria)

•      An Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification.

•      An up-to-date clinical coding refresher course certificate.

•      Broad clinical coding experience across a range of specialties, with strong experience in surgical specialties and/or Trauma & Orthopaedics.

•      A good understanding of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit and patient confidentiality requirements.

•      Confidence working independently from home, while also being an active and supportive member of a wider team.

•      Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients and staff at different levels.

•      Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Teams etc)

It would also be great if you have (Desirable Criteria)

•      Experience using ICD and OPCS within the Classification Browser.

•      An interest in developing your career in clinical coding audit, training or management within CHKS.
