Senior Physiotherapist (Specialist Medicine Team Leader)

Applications are invited for a Band 7 team lead role within the Physiotherapy Medical team. This exciting development opportunity is suitable for a Senior physiotherapist keen to advance their clinical, leadership and managerial skills with the full support of management. We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our department.

You will be working alongside an established B7 team lead. The team has highly skilled Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy assistant staff. They are a friendly team and dedicated towards the delivery of an excellent service for all our users.

You will be required to partake in our on-call and weekend service.

Main duties of the job

In General Medicine, you will:

Manage patients with a wide variety of conditions e.g. respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal; Have a varied caseload of patients ranging from General Medical to subspecialty patients such as Respiratory, Cardiology, Hepatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Renal and Oncology, utilising the skills of advanced assessment and discharge planning.

As a physiotherapy specialist you will have responsibilities that would include:

·         Planning, delivery and evaluation of the Medical physiotherapy service

·         Operational management of the team

·         Development and supervision of staff and students

To provide highly specialised respiratory physiotherapy and rehabilitation to the specialist medical wards, including oncology, infectious diseases, haemotology, hepatology, renal, gastroenterology, cardiology, endocrinology and respiratory diseases, including the respiratory support unit.

To support the members of the medical team to deliver the highest

 possible standard of service.

To undertake a team leader role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to medical patients throughout Addenbrooke’s hospital on a day-to-day basis.

All appointments with a start date on or after 1 October 2026 will be subject to a 12-week probationary period. This provides a structured and supportive period to help you settle into your role, with regular reviews and feedback.

As there is a 12-week probationary period, successful candidates are expected to have the Right to Work for a period of at least 6 months from the proposed start date. Immigration and Right to Work status will be discussed with successful candidates at conditional offer. CUH will not offer sponsorship to candidates that have applied for a fee waiver.

Please note:- Internal applicants on permanent contracts can apply for this post as a secondment or fixed term contract. For secondments you must have the approval of your line manager before applying. If you are an internal applicant currently on a fixed term contract you are able to apply for this as a fixed term position.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • State Registration.
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses / CPD.
  • Ability to work to MSc standard.
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
  • Relevant validated clinical courses.
  • Involvement in special interest groups.
  • MSc qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial postgraduate experience at Band 6 level providing a broad range of experience including respiratory, general medicine, oncology, care of the older person, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Supervisory Skills of Band 5 Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Assistants and students.
  • Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and / or MDT.
  • Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff or students or assistants.
  • Competency to participate in weekend and on-call work (to include NCCU, ITU, PICU).
Desirable criteria
  • Experience at Band 7 level.
  • Collaborating with community and intermediate care services.
  • Participation in Medical Service Centre Meetings.
  • Team leadership.
  • Significant participation in Evidence Based Project work.
  • NHS Experience

  • Substantial knowledge of inpatient physiotherapy.
