Job overview
Here at St. Albans City Hospital (SACH) Theatres we are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, and dynamic band 6 Scrub Practitioner to join our friendly, professional multi-disciplinary team. We offer rotational opportunities for staff in order for them to develop and/or maintain their skills.
We welcome both Registered Nurses and ODPs alike.
Applicants will need to possess good interpersonal skills in order to work effectively within the existing theatre teams whilst also having the ability to work under their own initiative.

Main duties of the job
Be responsible for the management and organisation of the operative list and clinical care.
Be responsible for the efficient communication of changes within the operating department to all members of the multidisciplinary theatre team.
Undertake the safe and efficient transfer of patients to other hospitals.
Demonstrate clear leadership qualities in order to perform day to day managerial tasks, including allocation of staff etc.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Within all of the roles advertised at a band 6 level candidates are to demonstrate they are team members who perform as a senior, a specialist, or a junior manager and demonstrate greater autonomy, leadership, and complex decision-making.
Opportunities in theatres include:
• CPD opportunities including post registration courses.
• Preceptorship opportunities supporting the diverse professions working within the operating theatre department.
Supported induction and preceptorship programmes with skills and competency packages which are relevant to the specialist areas of operating theatre practice.
SACH is the Surgical Centre for elective surgery and comprises of 8 theatres with the main specialities including Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, General, Urology, Gynaecology, ENT, Pain and Breast surgery.
You will be fully supported upon joining WHTH and each new starter will be assigned a buddy to support them through a structured induction package.
This includes a customised supernumerary period for all new starters which allows you to work and learn alongside experienced practitioners who will support you.
There is a multitude of learning, training and development opportunities within WHTH. Supporting your continuous professional development is important to us.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- First level registration with the NMC or HCPC
- Post-registration education programme related to speciality
- Evidence of professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Working towards a degree.
- ILS/ALS
- ENT post-registration education programme.
- Mentorship course or equivalent.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of relevant political and professional issues in health care.
- Understanding of principles of budget management.
- In depth knowledge of a variety of ENT surgery.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance & Benchmarking.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of developing care pathways.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Considerable experience within the ENT speciality as a scrub practitioner.
- Mentoring and facilitating experience.
- Commitment to clinical effectiveness and evidence-based care.
Desirable criteria
- Substantive scrub experience at Band 5 level.
