Ward Clerk

We are looking for a motivated and organised Ward Clerk to join our Maternity Administration Team. Based primarily within Maternity Triage and Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU), you will provide a welcoming reception service, support patient flow and act as the first point of contact for women, families and healthcare professionals. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will play an important part in supporting safe, effective maternity care and ensuring patients receive a positive experience from the moment they arrive.

  • Provide a welcoming and professional reception service for women and families attending Maternity Triage and Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU).
  • Act as the first point of contact for patients, visitors and healthcare professionals in person and by telephone.
  • Register patient attendances and maintain accurate electronic patient records.
  • Support patient flow by communicating effectively with clinical staff and escalating concerns where appropriate.
  • Maintain a visible presence within the reception area and support the safe monitoring of patients awaiting assessment.
  • Manage patient documentation, correspondence, shared inboxes and routine administrative tasks.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to support the smooth and efficient running of the service.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained and information is handled in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Provide administrative support across maternity services as required to meet service needs.
  • We are looking for someone with excellent communication and IT skills, strong organisational abilities, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and professional in a busy environment.

Education and Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent qualification.
Meini prawf dymunol
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Business Administration or other relevant subject or admin qualification.
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months previous experience in an administrative or clerical role.
  • Experience working directly with the public.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • Experience working in a busy environment with competing priorities.
Meini prawf dymunol
  • Experience within the NHS or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of maternity services.
  • Experience using NHS systems including IPM, E3, CRIS or similar.
  • Understanding of patient pathways and appointment processes.
