Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic Band 5 midwives approaching the end of their preceptorship period and experienced Band 6 midwives to join our Community Midwifery Teams across York and Scarborough.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a supportive and dedicated team, delivering high-quality, personalised maternity care within community settings. You will provide compassionate, evidence-based care throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, ensuring women and birthing people receive safe, effective and individualised care that meets their physical, psychological and emotional needs.

Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, you will build meaningful relationships with women and families, promoting informed choice, continuity and positive birth experiences. You will have opportunities to support and develop student midwives, colleagues and support staff, while contributing to the ongoing improvement and development of maternity services across the Trust.

At York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we are committed to delivering outstanding care and creating an environment where our staff can thrive. If you are passionate about providing excellent community-based maternity care and want to make a real difference to the lives of women, babies and families, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality, personalised care and support to women and families throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period, ensuring care is safe, evidence-based and centred on individual needs.
  • Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, developing clear management plans and escalating concerns appropriately to ensure the best possible outcomes for women and babies.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, facilitate timely follow-up and promote positive experiences for women and their families.
  • Promote dignity, privacy, equality and inclusion, respecting the cultural, religious and personal choices of those in your care.
  • Maintain high standards of professional midwifery practice in line with the NMC Code, Trust policies and national guidance.
  • Support the education, supervision and development of student midwives, colleagues and support staff, acting as a positive role model within the team.
  • Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement, service development and the implementation of evidence-based practice to continually enhance maternity services.
  • Promote patient safety by adhering to governance processes, reporting incidents and sharing learning to improve care and outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, ensuring confidentiality and information governance requirements are upheld.
