Job overview

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of London's foremost teaching trusts, combining clinical excellence with a culture of innovation. We are seeking an outstanding Consultant Histopathologist to join our forward-thinking department at an exciting moment in its evolution.

Our recent transition to fully digital pathology reporting has transformed how we work — offering flexibility, efficiency, and a platform for the future. Cross-site reporting across King's Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington means genuine variety in your practice, with the benefits of a large, well-resourced trust and strong, collaborative teams at both sites.

You will manage a diverse, high-volume caseload with rich subspecialty exposure, supported by close MDT integration and digital infrastructure. Academic opportunities are available through our partnership with King's College London, with scope for research, audit, and teaching at all levels.

If you are a resourceful, ambitious histopathologist ready to embrace digital-first working and the opportunities of a truly multi-site trust, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The Histopathology department at Denmark Hill undertakes histopathology (including frozen sections), diagnostic cytopathology (excluding cervical cytology) and autopsy pathology.

We are looking to recruit a locum consultant. This is a replacement post, timetabled for 8 PA per week, however there is scope to expand this to a full time (10 PA) role should the candidate prefer this. The post will require the post holder to play an active role in the general running of the department, with specialist interests in Gastrointestinal pathology, Cytopathology.  If desired, autopsy work can be arranged by mutual consent with the Clinical Leads and local Coroner. The successful candidate will join an impressive team dedicated to providing a first-class patient-centred service.

Potential applicants will be welcome to visit the department and discuss this post.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
