Job overview
We are seeking an exceptional, forward-thinking senior pharmacist to lead Women’s, Children’s and Sexual Health Services at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, serving a large, diverse North East London population.
You will provide strategic and clinical leadership across paediatrics, paediatric oncology, neonates, maternity, gynaecology, HIV, reproductive health and sexual health, driving clinical excellence, service transformation and high-quality, person-centred pharmaceutical care.
Our pharmacy service has benefited from significant investment, including Trust-wide EPMA for adult inpatients. Roll-out to paediatrics, neonates and maternity is planned for the coming year.
Main duties
• Lead a safe, high-quality and cost-effective clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation service tailored to these specialties.
• Provide advanced, evidence-based pharmaceutical advice to multidisciplinary teams.
• Plan and deliver strategic improvements aligned with national standards, medicines guidance and clinical governance.
• Be a visible leader and line manager, providing mentorship, supervision and training.
For more information or an informal visit, contact Sinead Tynan, Head Pharmacist, Hospital Services: 01708 435 0000 ext. 2861 ([email protected]).
Main duties of the job
To lead, develop, and deliver a safe, high-quality, and cost-effective clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation service tailored to meet the specific needs of patients in Women’s, Children’s and Sexual Health services.
To provide advanced, specialised pharmaceutical and evidence-based advice to multidisciplinary teams across specialities including paediatrics, neonates, obstetrics, gynaecology, and sexual health.
Provide an advanced clinical service to allocated wards/patients groups as part of the team.
To plan and implement strategic improvements to clinical pharmacy services, ensuring aligning with national standards, drug use guidelines and clinical governance agendas.
Lead prescribing safety, antimicrobial stewardship, and the development of local policies, patient group directions (PGD’s), and treatment guidelines.
Act as a visible leader and line manager, providing mentorship, clinical supervision, and training to junior pharmacists, multidisciplinary team, and non-medical prescribers.
Monitor and analyse drug expenditure and manage medicines-related cost pressures within the Clinical Group.
Working for our organisation
We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.
They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
