Job overview

Are you a compassionate and committed psychologist who champions inclusion? Join our Clinical Health Psychology, General Medicine Service and help people cope with and adjust to a range of physical health conditions, including diabetes, renal, respiratory, gastroenterology and cardiology conditions. You will support patients to improve their mental health and wellbeing while living with these conditions.

The postholder will play an essential role in ensuring that psychological perspectives inform care across multidisciplinary teams. You will provide specialist clinical input to people referred to the service and work closely with the teams supporting this patient group. Alongside your work with patients and their families, you will support staff through training, consultation and supervision.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Health Psychology Service is a team of psychologists who help people adapt to and develop creative ways of living well alongside physical health problems. The BCHFT Clinical Health Psychology Service operates across three geographical areas: Dudley, Wolverhampton, and Sandwell and West Birmingham, with a number of contracts in each area.

We provide psychological input to General Medicine services across Dudley and Wolverhampton. You will join a wider team of psychologists working across services for people with long-term health conditions, with robust supervision and support provided.

Working for our organisation

Psychological professionals form a large professional group within BCHFT, giving you access to wider support, learning and development opportunities beyond the Clinical Health Psychology team.

This post will be based at Cross Street Health Centre. The successful applicant may also be required to support other parts of the General Medicine Service according to service need. Full clinical and operational support will be provided.

You may wish to discuss combining this post with our fixed-term Sandwell Stroke role if you are seeking additional hours. We also welcome applications from recently qualified clinical psychologists interested in a Band 7 to Band 8a development role.
