Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist to join our Clinical Health Psychology Service within the Cancer Service. This is a part-time post of 0.2 WTE (7.5 hours per week), offered at Band 8a or as a Band 7–8a development role.

The post holder will be based in Dudley and will also work across our other Black Country sites, supporting psycho-oncology services in Dudley, Sandwell and Wolverhampton. The successful applicant will provide individual assessment and psychological interventions for patients referred to the service.

Our service aims to reduce psychological distress, improve quality of life and patient experience, and enhance the wellbeing of people living with a physical health condition.

Main duties of the job

The service also provides teaching, training, supervision and consultation to multidisciplinary team colleagues. This supports staff to manage psychological needs effectively and integrate psychological principles into their practice. The post offers variety and the opportunity to use the full range of your clinical, supervisory and consultancy skills.

We work within a stepped-care model informed by relevant clinical guidance. Clinical Health Psychology provides direct intervention for patients with the most complex needs while enabling multidisciplinary colleagues to support people experiencing lower levels of distress through training, supervision and consultation.

You will receive strong professional support and supervision from the Principal Clinical Psychologist leading this specialist area, as well as from the wider Clinical Health Psychology team. Applicants appointed to the Band 7–8a development post will be supported to develop the required competencies through an established Trust-wide process that has been successfully completed by many colleagues.

Working for our organisation

Our Clinical Health Psychology team includes Clinical, Counselling and Health Psychologists working across Dudley, Sandwell and Wolverhampton with people living with a wide range of physical health conditions. You will benefit from excellent opportunities for peer support, professional development and collaboration. The Trust also employs a large community of psychological professionals across Adult Mental Health, Older Adults, Learning Disabilities and Children’s Services, providing a strong professional network and varied development opportunities. A fully funded continuing professional development package for psychological professionals is available to the successful applicant.
