We are looking for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Lead Pharmacy Technician – Theatres & Elective General Surgery to join our Pharmacy Department at Wye Valley NHS Trust. Working closely with senior pharmacists and the multidisciplinary team, you will deliver and develop a high-quality ward-based clinical pharmacy service, including medicines reconciliation, therapeutic monitoring, medicines supply, final accuracy checking and patient counselling. You will also lead and support junior colleagues, help manage the day-to-day service, monitor performance and use audit, innovation and continuous improvement to advance the pharmacy technician role. Applicants must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, hold an NVQ Level 3 and/or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science and an Accuracy Checking Technician qualification, and have significant relevant clinical and ward-based pharmacy experience. Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The post holder will work closely with the Senior Pharmacist’s for the Surgical Division to provide a comprehensive ward based, clinical service to the Surgical Division specifically the Theatres & Critical Care Directorate and Elective General Surgery. The role will include taking medicines histories and completing medicines reconciliation, carrying out therapeutic drug monitoring, making therapeutic interventions within scope of practice, supply of medicines, final checking of medicines and counselling patients. In addition management responsibilities will include line management of junior staff, assisting with the day to day running of the service and monitoring performance, of the service.

The role will also involve making continuous improvements to the service using innovative techniques to develop the technician role and integrating completely in the multi-disciplinary team. There will also be operational commitment to the Pharmacy service weekends and Bank Holidays on a formal rota

Education & Qualifications

  • NVQ3 Pharmacy Technician/Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Accuracy Checking Technician Qualification
  • Achieved Accredited MM/Medicines Optimisation qualification or willingness to complete if not already achieved
  • Level 4 Clinical Diploma or willingness to complete if not already achieved

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of clinical pharmacy and ward-based working
