An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pennine Memory Assessment Service. We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate assistant psychologist with a genuine interest in older adult mental health and working with people with dementia. The team specialises in completing comprehensive assessments with people who have difficulties with their memory.
Main duties of the job
The Assistant Psychologist will work closely with the Clinical Neuropsychologist and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team. The post holder will support the completion of cognitive and specialist neuropsychological assessment as appropriate, to help timely assessment and diagnosis of dementia. The role will involve participating in MDT discussions, maintaining waiting lists and completion of audits.
The position is open to applicants who have an undergraduate psychology degree. We require someone who is organised, can work autonomously and has excellent people skills.
Current base is Gannow Lane Resource Centre, Gannow Lane, Burnley. Please note the memory assessment service will be moving to St Peter’s Health Centre, Church Street, Burnley.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- A good knowledge of lifespan psychology applied to health care
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with psychological/mental health difficulties or other disabilities
Experience
Essential criteria
- Contact with people with mental health difficulties and/or other disabilities
Desirable criteria
- Experience of paid work with older people
- Experience of paid work with older people. To have worked as part of a team within a statutory or voluntary care setting
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to undertake psychologically informed research projects under supervision
- Good communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work across a number of different settings
- Experience using computers for databases or data-analysis
