Job overview

Are you a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician looking to develop your career within Mental Health Services? If so, we would love to hear from you.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive Pharmacy Team at Pendleview, our specialist mental health inpatient unit based at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Pendleview comprises six inpatient wards providing 24-hour care for adults aged 18-65 years experiencing a range of mental health conditions. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, recovery-focused care. The service provides individualised treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs, whether they require a short period of intensive support or ongoing care for severe and enduring mental illness.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be an integral member of the inpatient team, contributing to the safe and effective use of medicines and supporting patients throughout their recovery journey. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people experiencing mental health challenges.

The Pharmacy Service at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust is a well-established and highly respected team, bringing together expertise across Mental Health and Community Services. We are committed to delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care and are passionate about supporting the education, training, and professional development of our staff.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit a Band 4 Pharmacy Technician to support medicines management for service users and the wider multidisciplinary team across Pendleview.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to prioritise and manage their own workload effectively. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team is essential.

Key responsibilities include:
•    Supporting the delivery of a comprehensive pharmacy service across the inpatient unit.
•    Assisting with the accurate preparation, dispensing, and supply of medicines to patients, wards, departments, and partner organisations under supervision.
•    Participating in medicines reconciliation, medicines optimisation, discharge facilitation, and audit activities.
•    Supporting medicines supply processes and the effective use of the Trust's electronic prescribing system.
•    Contributing to local and national audits and monitoring compliance with medicines legislation and local and national standards for the safe and secure handling of medicines.
•    Acting as a key member of both the multidisciplinary ward team and the wider pharmacy team.
•    Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and the quality of pharmaceutical care.
This role may require travel to other Trust sites as part of service delivery.
