Pharmacist

Band 8a

West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Job overview

We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic, forward-thinking pharmacist to continue to lead and develop clinical pharmacy services within our Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) MINT (Mental Health Integrated Network Teams) Services.  The successful candidate will work together with the Band 8a pharmacists for Ealing MINT and Hounslow MINT and the Band 6 Medicines Management Technician for the Early Intervention Teams and Community Rehabilitation Teams to build on the excellent work that has been undertaken within our working-age adult community-based services to date.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with good communication skills and a keen interest in mental health who derives satisfaction from developing both the service and pharmacy colleagues. The applicant should be able to work well both in a team and autonomously.

The pharmacist will join a vibrant, expanding team.  Building on the excellent pharmacy service with bases in the five main Trust sites, the team includes pharmacists dedicated to Child and Adolescent Services, the Perinatal Mental Health Service, Older Adults Services and the Crisis Teams as well as MINT.  There is a team focus on growth and development, including Clinical Diplomas, non-medical prescribing qualifications, consultant pharmacist accreditation and writing articles and posters for publication.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will lead and develop the clinical pharmacy services to the H&F MINT teams and work together with the Advanced Specialist Pharmacists for Ealing MINT and Hounslow MINT, providing mutual support and cross-cover as necessary.

The MINT 8a pharmacists will support the Band 6 MMT EIS/CRS with clinical queries.  Conversely, the Band 6 MMT EIS/CRS may assist the MINT 8a pharmacists with operational queries within MINT.

The candidate will provide training and development on medicines management in mental health to junior and trainee staff, including trainee pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and visiting trainee pharmacists.  The candidate will act as a practice supervisor, educational supervisor and/or designated supervisor to trainee staff as necessary and appropriate.

The candidate will work in collaboration with the rest of the West London NHS Trust pharmacy team to provide pharmacy services across the Trust.  Where necessary, the candidate may be asked to cover colleagues’ leaves of absence.
