Community Manager

London HQ with hybrid working, 35 hours, 1 year FTC

Salary range: £46,623 - £58,089 per annum

At the Royal College of Nursing we’re an optimistic organisation. And we’ve got good reason to be. We all share the same voice when it comes to changing the shape of the health policies of the future. And as the largest trade union of nursing staff and students in the UK – with over half a million members – all we can see are the infinite possibilities for a brighter future. Join us and you will too.

The role

The Royal College of Nursing is launching and growing Nest, our digital community platform. Nest brings together nurses, healthcare professionals, leaders and experts to share knowledge, build connections and support professional development.

This is a hands-on role where you'll combine community building, content creation, engagement, moderation and relationship management. You'll help people find value in the platform, support volunteer community leaders, encourage meaningful conversations and use insight and data to help the community grow.

No two days will be quite the same. One day you might be helping launch a new community, the next analysing engagement trends, supporting a webinar, developing resources for community leaders or working with colleagues to improve the user experience.

If you enjoy bringing people together, creating engaging online experiences and helping communities thrive, we'd love to hear from you.

The person

We're looking for someone who understands what makes people participate, contribute and keep coming back to a community.

You'll have experience managing online communities, membership platforms or digital engagement programmes, and you'll be comfortable balancing day-to-day community management with longer-term growth and development.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Experience managing or growing online communities or digital engagement platforms.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience creating or coordinating engaging digital content.
  • Confidence moderating discussions and managing sensitive situations professionally.
  • The ability to use data and user feedback to improve engagement and participation.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming and respectful online spaces.

Experience of platforms such as Hivebrite, working within a membership organisation, charity or professional body, or delivering online events and webinars would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of an exciting and growing professional community at a national organisation with more than half a million members.

You'll help shape how nurses and healthcare professionals connect, learn from one another and develop professionally. You'll work with passionate colleagues, contribute to a major strategic initiative and see the direct impact of your work on community members every day.

To succeed at the Royal College of Nursing all you need to do is think bigger, better and brighter. And with an attitude like that, anything’s possible.

What we offer you

We expect you to look after our members. And we expect you to be rewarded for it. We offer an impressive range of benefits, a broad range of learning development opportunities and an award-winning health and wellbeing programme. We offer annual leave up to 32 days plus bank holidays and three additional days for the Christmas break plus generous maternity, adoption, paternity, and shared parental leave packages.

*We offer a competitive pay structure with annual pay progression until you reach the top of the salary scale. We normally offer new employees the first point of the salary range, although you may be able to negotiate a higher starting salary depending on your skills, experience and current salary.

We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs and many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. Our hybrid working model allows for up to 60% of your working time to be carried out from home. At least 40% of your working time will be spent working in person.

Equal opportunities for everyone

Equity, diversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we aim to foster an inclusive environment so our people can bring their authentic selves to work. This is integral to our mission to enable you to support our members and ensure their voice is heard by all UK governments to get the best outcomes for them and their patients.
