Job overview
The advertised post is based in Central North Wales, at Ysbyty Abergele and fills a vacancy in one of the four ophthalmic training posts. The post has potential to be beneficial for those doctors seeking to gain experience for Ophthalmic Specialist Training applications or on the Portfolio Pathway for Specialist Registration (previously known as CESR).
Ophthalmology services are provided on a day case basis at the Ysbyty Abergele Site and out of hours services are run from the nearby general hospital Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. Very rarely there can be ophthalmology in-patients at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Main duties of the job
The post is full time. The job plan will mirror the ophthalmic training recommendations of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists which per week is typically: 1 teaching session, 2 theatre sessions, 1 to 2 research sessions (number depending on seniority), 5 to 6 other clinical sessions. The nature of the clinical sessions will depend on both the training needs of the successful applicant and departmental resources / service needs. You will be responsible for administrative duties arising out of clinical duties such as organizing patient follow ups as part of their care pathway, communicating with GPs and other health care professionals and triaging referrals.
