Anatomical Pathologist

The opportunity

Our client is a well-established private pathology provider servicing the Canberra region, with a strong reputation among referring clinicians and long-standing relationships across the city's private hospitals, endoscopy clinics and specialist practices.

Due to continued growth and increased demand for diagnostic services, we are seeking Anatomical Pathologists to join their established consultant team on a permanent basis. Both roles are available now, with flexibility on start dates.

This is a genuinely broad general diagnostic role with real clinician contact and a strong teaching component, well suited to a pathologist who enjoys variety, collegiality, and being part of a service that clinicians actually pick up the phone to. General Pathologists with strong histopathology reporting experience are also encouraged to apply.

About the role

You will be responsible for the accurate and timely diagnosis of a wide range of histopathology and cytopathology specimens, working alongside an established team of consultant pathologists, laboratory staff and referring clinicians.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reporting of routine and complex histopathology and cytology cases across a broad general caseload, including skin, breast, prostate, gastrointestinal, non-gynaecological cytology and CSF
  • Specimen triage
  • Clinical discussion with referring doctors, and building strong working relationships with the referrer base, including practice visits
  • Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs), including oncology MDTs with local hospitals
  • Teaching, mentoring and supervision of registrars — the practice currently supports a registrar training program
  • Contribution to quality assurance, audit and accreditation processes
  • Participation in a shared 1:7 on-call roster — telephone advice only, generally until 9pm

About you

  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) in Anatomical Pathology, or equivalent
  • Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated expertise in diagnostic anatomical pathology
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with full work rights

Experienced consultants and recently fellowed pathologists alike will be considered. Our client places genuine emphasis on cultural fit and a collaborative, values-driven approach to practice.

What's on offer

  • Competitive salary package, negotiable based on experience and qualifications
  • Relocation assistance available, assessed case by case
  • Flexibility — full-time (38 hours) or part-time arrangements considered
Generous leave, including additional leave and dedicated conference leave
  • CPD and study support, with backing for academic and research interests
  • Career progression and leadership development pathways
  • Supportive leadership with a genuine focus on staff wellbeing
  • Employee benefits program including novated leasing, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), fitness and travel discounts, annual influenza vaccination, length of service awards and social events
  • Central Canberra location — a city offering an enviable lifestyle, short commutes, excellent schools, and easy access to the coast and the snowfields
