General Medicine is an acute service based at Auckland City Hospital. We are leading teaching hospital and closely associated with Auckland University. General medicine is the core of the medical inpatient service but is very well supported by the range of tertiary services that you would expect in New Zealand’s largest hospital complex.

We are now wanting to expand our service which currently comprises of 4 teams of 5 Consultant Physicians or part-timers to make up 20 0.75 FTE posts. Each ward-based team of 5 Consultants has in addition 3 Registrars and 3 House Officers. We have taken over another ward so need to expand our workforce. We are also looking to adopt an acute physician role. There is the flexibility for consultants to work for the service for the entire year or for part of the year (minimum 3 months).

As a Consultant Physician, you will work a rotation with three clinical weeks followed by two weeks on a non-clinical week devoted to additional duties such as teaching, relieving absent SMOs plus continuing medical education prior to the weekend on call.

You should be either registered or be eligible for vocational registration within the scope of General Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Previous experience as Consultant Physician is desirable.
