The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Respiratory Physiology Department as a band 5. The role will primarily be carrying out diagnostic lung function testing, diagnostic sleep studies, CPAP set ups, telephone reviews and assisting senior staff with more complex duties.
Main duties of the job
Perform maintenance, calibrate and assess quality control of equipment within areas of assessed competence
Perform lung function testing with inpatients and outpatients unsupervised after assessed for competence.
Assist Senior Physiologists in more specialist tests in accordance with international standards and CPAP/NIV assessment and provision.
Demonstrate continuous professional development by working towards relevant professional qualifications and registration as required by the department guided by the departmental lead.
Maintain accurate patient information systems.
Undertake administration duties e.g. answering telephone queries, dealing with appointments and ordering consumables under appropriate supervision.
Have a desire and motivation to learn and help the development of the department and other members of staff as well as University students.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc in Clinical Physiology or Science related subject or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- ARTP practitioner examination or equivalent
- ARTP spirometry qualification or equivalent
- AHCS registration or working towards.

- Calm in stressful situations
- Demonstrates ability to work without direct supervision

Knowledge and experiecne
Essential criteria
- Be able to work unsupervised and demonstrate ability to work as an independent practitioner within scope of practice
- Experience of performing physiological tests on a Variety of different populations.
- Experience in performing full lung function and basic sleep investigations
Desirable criteria
- Experience working within respiratory physiology and healthcare environment
- Teaching/supervising others
- Knowledge of specialised respiratory investigations
- Good evaluation skills for decision making process during tests
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- Can perform a range of basic and specialised lung function tests without supervision
- Good theoretical knowledge of a broad range of fundamental respiratory investigations.
- Able to prepare reports for clinical colleagues
Desirable criteria
- Able to interpret basic lung function and sleep studies
- Able to present data and information in a concise format
