Job overview

We have an opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist – Complex Eating and Drinking disorders

As our dedicated clinical team grows, we are looking for a clinical leader who is highly specialist in the area of complex eating and drinking disorders. You will have clinical leadership responsibilities in videofluroscopy assessment and the assessment and management of complex dysphagia. You will have skills in the dysphagia management of patients who have a tracheostomy. You will be someone who is committed to the future development of the SLT workforce in West IHC SLT services. This is a key clinical leadership role, and we are looking for a passionate SLT with a strong clinical background in adult acquired disorders, with clinical leadership experience that has demonstrated an ability to develop the skills and knowledge of others.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the friendly and supportive Adult Speech and Language Therapy team where there is a wide range of expertise and experience. You will work clinically within our Acute and Community settings,  providing direct clinical care to our patients across the pathway. You will work with established and developing multi-agency and inter-disciplinary teams across BCUHB and with partners to develop SLT services into new pathways that meet the needs of this population.

You will join a growing team of Speech and Language Therapists and technical instructors. There is excellent peer support with our ‘one team’ approach across acute and community SLT services. We have regular team meetings and have strong links with other specialist services. Clinical supervision is actively encouraged and there are regular cross team CPD and training opportunities as you continue to develop and hone your clinical skills. There is access to regular therapist-led and MDT clinics including Videofluoroscopy.

You will work closely with our team leaders for adult community services and acute. In addition to your direct clinical work, you will have oversight of our in-house dysphagia training programme for our SLT staff.

We are very happy to answer any questions you may have about this role and we welcome informal visits.
