We are looking for a Senior Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our team. You will manage a complex caseload covering all types of diabetes, while also supporting primary and community care through virtual clinics, education, and advice.
We work closely with a range of health partners, including Primary Care, Acute Hospitals and the Ambulance Service. Collaboration is central to what we do, helping to build skills and share knowledge across services.
You'll deliver education sessions to healthcare professionals and provide structured education for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. This position is fantastic for a confident communicator, who is able to build strong working relationships with a wide range of people.
Alongside clinical work, you will also contribute to audit, research, service development and staff training. You will bring strong leadership and teamwork skills, with a practical and forward-thinking approach.
We are committed to your development, with strong clinical supervision and in-house CPD, including regular MDT sessions.
This is a fixed term role at Band 6 or Band 7 level depending on the successful candidates skills and experience
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver high quality care within the diabetes pathway and provide expert clinical practice, advice to patients and support to staff. This is delivered in a range of community and primary care settings.This will include providing clinical expertise, underpinned by the advanced skills within their speciality developed in Clinical Practice, Facilitating Learning, Leadership, and Evidence, Research and Development
Taking a key role in the development and delivery of the Diabetes and Nutrition Service (DANS):
- Through an Expert Clinical Diabetes role in conjunction with the Clinical and Operational Leads within the service
- Working collaboratively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and key stakeholders to establish a whole systems approach in order to deliver improvements in healthcare for people with diabetes
- To develop and deliver Health Care Professional training and Structured Diabetes Education to people with diabetes

Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical experience of working with people with Diabetes
- Able to demonstrate leadership skills, building effective working relationships with staff and management at all levels within the organisation and external environments;
- Excellent time management skills
- Experience of managing staff (of own and other professions)
- Ability to use knowledge to solve clinical problems creatively and make judgements which require analysis and interpretation
- Ability to create, foster and build effective working relationships with all service users and stakeholders
Desirable criteria
- Master’s level clinical qualification or working towards achieving this.
- Coaching / Teaching and Assessing qualification / experience
- PADRAP/PACR
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current registration with NMC / HCPC or other relevant professional body of registration
- Successful completion of a relevant post-graduate L3 (or higher) course or appropriate equivalent modules, such as disease specific qualifications
- Independent prescribing
- Hold a UK Driving License and have access to a vehicle or transport during working hours.
