Job overview
We are looking for a maternity cover for a Band 6 Senior Neurological Physiotherapist.
The Specialist Community Neurology Service provides care to people across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) with diagnosed or probable neurological condition.
The Specialist Community Neurology Service is a multi-professional team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Speech and language therapists, Therapy assistants and admin staff.
The service accepts referrals for people who meet their inclusion criteria, who have a diagnosed or probable neurological condition where their therapy needs are best met within the community.
The post will be based across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We have bases at New Friends Hall (Bristol), Marine View (Portishead) and Cadbury Health (South Gloucestershire)
Should you be successful in your application you would be expected to manage a caseload of people with neurological conditions, seeing people within their homes but also within the community itself as needed. You will be expected to work both as an autonomous clinician and also for joint working with other members of the team. You will support students and Band 5 rotational physiotherapists as needed.
Main duties of the job
- To manage a caseload of people with a diagnosed or probable neurological condition across BNSSG.
- To be able to line manage other members of the team as needed including peers, junior staff and students.
- To be able to assess and treat a variety of neurological conditions in the community.
- To have concurrent core skills such as orthopaedics, respiratory, and musculoskeletal physiotherapy that you are able to incorporate into your practice to provide care to meet the person's individual needs.
- To support relevant service improvement projects as needed.
- To support the learning and development of the team via supervisions and being a part of the In Service Training rota.
- To keep up to date with your own professional CPD.
- To be a part of the triage rota.
- To support other system wide meetings as appropriate.

- HCPC registered
- Diploma, BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy
- Car Driver and ability to drive between locations
Essential and Desireable to role
Essential criteria
- A high level of effective communication and an ability to develop relationships with patients, carers and staff in other teams and organisations
- Experience of line management skills, this can include students.
- Robust experience of the core areas of Physiotherapy including: neurology respiratory, orthopaedics and frailty/ care of the elderly.
- To be able to effectively identify a deteriorating patient and act accordingly. Including the ability to take and monitor vital signs.
- Ability to work collaboratively within own and multidisciplinary health and social care teams.
- Evidence of highly competent clinical reasoning skills and ability to effectively communicate this to other professionals.
- Computer skills including e-mail, word processing, power-point and the use of data bases to research for literature.
- Experience of being involved in relevant service development projects and audits
Desirable criteria
- Experience in having neuro-respiratory skills
- Experience in Community/Intermediate Care Setting
- Experience of managing complex postural issues.
- Experience of taking equipment through the equipment panel process
- Experience of successfully bringing EDI initiatives into practice and having a positive effect
