We have some fantastic opportunities for experienced Clinical Specialists in Physiotherapy within the Adult Learning Disability Health Service. This advert is for:

·       1 x 37.5 hours Permanent Band 7 Start ASAP

·       1 x 22.5 hours  9 months fixed term Start December

The Sirona Adult Learning Disability Health Service (SALDHS) is a centre of excellence for specialist learning disability health needs. We cover 3 localities where multidisciplinary teams enable our service users to access health services through direct care, liaison with other services and offering support and training on how to work with people who have a learning disability and how to make reasonable adjustments.

This is a chance for you to utilise your outstanding communication and leadership skills by undertaking clinical and line management support for a large team. You'll also be supporting the Clinical Lead with the day to day and caseload management.

We support adults with a learning disability whose complex physiotherapy needs cannot be met by mainstream or alternate specialist services. We're a friendly and motivated team, taking pride in the work we do by improving the quality of life of the individuals we support.

Main duties of the job

      To support the Clinical Lead- with  operational management and coordination of provision, making sure that the service is responsive to the needs of the service users and their carers.

  • Provide leadership, clinical support, and supervision to motivate team members and develop effective team working and personal development through joint working and regular presence at bases.
  • To complete allocations / triage processes & be a key point of contact for the ALDHS.
  • Undertake highly skilled and specialist holistic assessment of service users to formulate individualised physiotherapy plans using evidence based clinical reasoning skills and utilising a wide range of interventions, referring to other services as appropriate.
  • Have a specialist interest in posture management, falls and mobility and take leadership on the community respiratory pathway
  • Support carers to understand complex physiotherapy needs behaviour through education and teaching sessions enabling them to implement recommended management strategies.
  • Act as an expert resource, providing specialist physiotherapy advice regarding complex physiotherapy needs
  • To be linked to either the Bristol, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire locality team, representing the Physiotherapy team and working as part of a specialist multi disciplinary service 
  • To travel, work and see service users in a variety of settings across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration (HCPC)
  • Evidence of post graduate study at masters level, similar or willingness to undertake
  • To hold a valid driving licence and to be able to travel independently between a variety of locations within BNSSG
  • Diploma/ degree in Physiotherapy
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification in leadership and management
  • Completion of ATACP Hydrotherapy courses

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Required

Essential criteria
  • Significant post qualification experience in learning disabilities and /or associated specialisms
  • A high level of effective communication and an ability to develop relationships with people with Learning disabilities, carers and staff in other teams and organisations
  • Able to work collaboratively within own and multidisciplinary health and social care teams
  • Evidence of Computer skills including e-mail, word processing, power-point and the use of data bases
  • Evidence of highly competent clinical documentation skills
  • Significant experience of providing clinical and line management supervision and support to staff
  • Co-ordination and implementation of specialist Physiotherapy and postural management plans
  • Experience of community respiratory needs / prevention
