This is an exciting opportunity to join our Community Respiratory Service, where you'll provide support to adults living with long-term respiratory conditions across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Our service delivers a range of specialist interventions, including Pulmonary Rehabilitation, the Home Oxygen Assessment Service, and postgraduate respiratory education in partnership with UWE. We also provide an Advice and Guidance Service for healthcare professionals across BNSSG from across the care pathway.

Working as part of our multidisciplinary team, you'll empower people to better manage their respiratory condition, improve their quality of life, and maintain their independence within their own homes and communities.

Joining our team offers the opportunity to develop your clinical expertise while working alongside experienced colleagues who are passionate about delivering outstanding community respiratory care.

  • Our service core hours running 8-5.30pm Monday to Friday 5 days a week.  

  • Our team is based at new Friends Hall, Stapleton, BS16 – but expected to travel to patient’s homes, clinics and community venues across the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) area 

 

Main duties of the job

In post, you will be responsible for provision of a patient-centred, evidence-based service to patients within the Bristol, North Somerset and South Glos area (BNSSG) and will provide:  

  • Expert clinical assessment, advice and treatment for people with chronic respiratory disease within the community setting.  

  • Support and deliver Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes and the Home Oxygen Therapy service.  

  • Be a specialist resource for colleagues across both professional and organisational boundaries sharing expert knowledge to ensure effective medical management and integrated working.

Essential criteria
  • To be competent in performing specialist clinical assessments and treatments with a variety of presenting conditions, and with particular emphasis on respiratory examination, treatment techniques and clinical reasoning
  • Experience of managing and reviewing the chronic respiratory cohort and demonstrable evidence of having worked recently with patients with respiratory disease.
  • Hold a UK Driving Licence and be able to access transport for the purposes of the post
  • To be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
  • Works well with others and can effectively collaborate
  • Experience in respiratory rehabilitation and/or diagnostics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing group work
  • Experience of community care and the interface with secondary care.
  • Teaching and supervising junior staff and students
  • Knowledge of audit and evaluation methods and advise on and implement improvements to the quality and efficiency of care for relevant patient group

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Hold a Physiotherapy/Nursing qualification recognised as equivalent by professional body
  • Membership to relevant professional body
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) related to respiratory care
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum Level 6 COPD and/or Asthma qualification
  • Level 6 Physical assessment and clinical reasoning qualification
  • Student mentorship/ practice assessor qualification
