Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (Full time, 37.5 hours per week).
We are seeking a skilled Speech and Language Therapist for a new position within a multi-disciplinary team, supporting children in childcare settings, including those accessing funded places such as Flying Start Childcare.
The successful applicant will be working with childcare providers: playgroups, Private Day Nurseries, childminders and after school clubs, increasing access to information, advice, and assistance. They will also work directly with children to support them in their speech, language and communication development, those with emerging needs through to children identified as needing targeted SLC support or additional learning provision.
Although based at the Westwood Early Years Centre, Buckley, the role will require supporting childcare providers across Flintshire and working alongside colleagues in different Early Years Centres.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post, however English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Early Years Childcare Team, alongside a team of Early Years Advisors and Placement Officers.
This new role will include:
· Training and supporting those working with children in their early years to recognise and respond appropriately to Speech, Language and Communication needs.
· Providing focussed support for childcare practitioners who are working with individual children, providing training and giving advice on how to ensure a language rich environment.
· Promoting early language key messages, including bespoke training and workshops for staff and parents.
· Supporting practitioners in childcare settings to understand and achieve Core Competencies as per the All-Wales SLC Training Pathway, including guiding those who have completed the ELKLAN Speech and Language Support 0 – 3, and Makaton for Early Years courses to implement and embed in practice.
· Working directly with children to support them in their speech, language and communication development, providing appropriate interventions, including children with emerging needs through to children identified as needing targeted and specialist SLT support
· The assessment and screening of children using appropriate tools, providing observations and reports where necessary to inform decision making.
· Support with the transition process between grant funded programmes, and between education and childcare.

- Able to demonstrate continuing professional development e.g. up to date, relevant CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
- Membership of appropriate clinical network group
- Other professional or academic qualification which relates to clinical practice
- Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- A range of clinical experience across Adult / Paediatric SLT services
- Delegation to non-registered staff
- Involvement in clinical audit
- Experience in service development / improvement
Desirable criteria
- Delegation to registered staff
- Experience of delivering clinical education in area of speciality
- Experience of delivering / supporting service change
- Delivering Practice Supervision
- Experience in leading service development / improvement
