We are delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to step into a combined Clinical Team Leader and Specialist Clinician role within our Paediatric School-Aged Services in Conwy.

This role offers the best of both worlds: the chance to lead and develop a dedicated clinical team while continuing to deliver high-level specialist practice.

Role Structure

Clinical Team Leader – 2 sessions per week

Highly Specialist SLT – 8 sessions per week

Clinical Team Leader Role:

  • You will play a key role in shaping high-quality services for children and young people across Conwy. You will be responsible for the full range of operational line management duties, including:
  • Providing direct line management to SLTs, working closely with the Head and Deputy Head of Service to ensure equitable, high-quality provision.
  • Using strong coaching and facilitative leadership skills to empower colleagues, encouraging innovation and supporting the team to think beyond traditional service models.
  • Working collaboratively with SLT clinical leads to ensure that operation and clinical priorities are aligned.
  • Responding creatively and efficiently to service pressures, ensuring that priorities reflect the needs of the population.
  • Offering strategic oversight of service areas to promote accessibility, consistency, and timely intervention. 

 

Main duties of the job

Highly Specialist SLT Role:

Alongside your leadership duties, you will continue to work as a Highly Specialist SLT, contributing your advanced clinical expertise to support children and families.

Key Clinical Responsibilities being:

  • Providing clinical leadership, working closely with Local Authority partners and SLT colleagues to ensure effective, equitable and responsive service delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with SLTs and education staff to support integrated and joined-up practice.
  • Carrying a highly specialist caseload, assessing and developing interventions for children with complex speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Working directly with children and young people, alongside providing training and advice to Specialist Teaching Assistants, mainstream school staff, and other professionals.
  • Leading on service development projects.
  • Providing supervision, guidance, and professional support to SLT colleagues and members of the wider workforce.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in S&LT
  • HCPC registered
  • Post graduate study relevant to clinical area at Masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Able to demonstrate continuing professional development e.g. up to date, relevant CPD portfolio.
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of appropriate clinical network group
  • Other professional or academic qualification which relates to clinical practice
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate
  • Clinical supervisory skills training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience clinically in area of specialism
  • Experience of clinical leadership
  • Significant experience of leading multidisciplinary / multiprofessional teams
