Job overview

Responsible for the leadership and management of the covid vaccination service within a geographical area.

A prime focus of the role is:

  • Ensuring best practice in infection control
  • Improving clinical care standards
  • Treating patients with dignity and respect
  • The post holder is required to provide leadership, service development and management within the vaccination centre and wider vaccination programme.
  • The post holder will  ensure  key functions  of  the  team  leader's   role   are undertaken through effective leadership, the setting, monitoring and maintenance of professional standards, collaborative working and providing a consistently  high standard of care and service delivery by ensuring efficient  and effective use of resources.
  • The post holder will to provide expert clinical advice to all staff.
  • The post holder will work in partnership with external agencies including independent sectors, across a variety of settings e.g. Acute hospitals, primary care and Public Health.
  • The post holder will be supporting the Vaccination Service Coordinator in monitoring and ensuring that the service meets local, regional, and national quality standards
  • Provide leadership and direction to junior members of staff within the Vaccination Centre and in collaboration ensure that staff comply with LHB standards and take the appropriate corrective action where required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the leadership team in the operational management of the vaccination programme within a geographical area.  The post holder will be responsible for providing and improving these services to assure the BCUHB that patients, carers and staff requirements are met and to ensure services are achieving targets set nationally and by the BCUHB. 

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management of all staff within the team on a day-to-day basis in the professional leadership, development and management of nursing within the MVC to facilitate the delivery of excellent practice and standards of service. To Support the Vaccination Service Coordinator and North Wales Operational Manager in the development of the service change of the MVC’s to meet the demand in service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide a visible and accessible resource for the MVC to whom staff, patients can access for assistance, advice and support.
  • Challenge traditional  practices and encouraging innovative problem   solving amongst staff that focuses on results.
  • Provide support to the Vaccination Service Coordinator in the operational management for agreed services, providing expertise, advice and guidance from a broad knowledge base to improve services by anticipating needs, planning and implementing innovative change according to BCUHB plans and objectives, and changing health care needs.
  • Contributes to the development Vaccination Strategy across the Health and Social Care Community.
  • Communicates  with  external  agencies  and  all  disciplines  within the TTP Programme
  • Acts as de-briefer and provides support during and after stressful situations for multi-disciplinary staff groups.
  • Responsible,   as Authorised   Signatory, for approving   payments, timesheets, travelling expenses, requisitions and other official BCUHB documents, ensuring these adhere to the BCUHB's Financial Procedures.
  • To ensure clinical practice is evidence based, ensuring best practice maintained.
  • Responsible for the monitoring, reporting and maintenance of agreed MVC standards for clinical areas/services to support high quality care.
  • Ensure practice is evidenced based.
  • Instigates audit processes, research and clinical governance reviews to identify areas where innovative practice is paramount.
  • To ensure all nurses abide by the legal requirement and statutory rules relating to Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct and Guidelines and achieve the personal professional requirements to remain an active practitioner on the NMC register.
  • Support the Vaccination Service Coordinator in the continuous management and professional responsibility for all staff within the infection control, decontamination and cleanliness service.
  • Interpret complex activity data and use this to inform service planning and decision making.
  • Identify key trends and changes from complex data and summarise these in a meaningful and succinct manner to inform reports and developments.
  • The post holder must at all times carry out duties and responsibilities with regard to the Health Board's Equality and Diversity policy.
  • Identifies and takes action when own or others' behaviour undermines equality and Diversity.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date and well informed about latest practices

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse Registered Health Profession
  • Knowledge of specific area, acquired through degree or equivalent experience or training, plus further staff and project management knowledge to post graduate diploma level equivalent
  • Track record of significant continuous professional and management development
  • Demonstrates a broad understanding of the key determinants of health and healthcare.
  • Up to date knowledge of the current health agenda and NHS policy
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of governance matters
