Job overview
Barts Health has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to lead the Cancer Pharmacy team as the Service Lead Pharmacist for Cancer on an interim basis for 12 months. You will gain valuable skills and experience to further develop your career in this exciting and ever evolving speciality.
The post-holder will oversee all aspects of the day to day delivery of the Cancer Pharmacy service including the inpatient ward service and clinical pharmacy service to out all outpatient and day case cancer patients. The team provides pharmacy services to a wide range of cancer types and also provides bone marrow transplantation and CAR-T services.
This job presents an exciting opportunity to develop in depth expertise in a range of services as well as to gain leadership and management experience from working with our well-established team of clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
The position is based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital but you will also visit other sites within Barts Health.

Main duties of the job
To promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective prescribing of medicines to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and errors across the cancer specialties. The post will lead a team of staff in the delivery of high-quality pharmacy services to Cancer services across the Trust. The post also manages clinical pharmacy services to the Specialist Endocrinology and Palliative Care service at the
St Bartholomew’s site working in conjunction with the wider Palliative care links across the sites

- Extensive hospital experience post registration within the speciality
- Significant experience of successful working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care to Cancer services
- Successful planning and implementing of significant service developments and organisational change
- Experience of successfully managing large groups of staff
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to influence others including managers, consultants, senior nursing staff
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences, including chairing of meetings.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrated expert knowledge covering a range of pharmacy services
- Sound knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in chosen specialty at Mastery level
- Good knowledge of law and guidance relating to medicines, pharmacy, rationing decisions in the NHS, PbR, commissioning
- Understanding of the pharmaceutical care needs of Cancer patients
- Good knowledge of all aspects of GCP and GMP
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MPharm or equivalent
- Registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Independent prescribing qualification or willing to work towards
- Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent Management qualification or equivalent experience
- MSc in pharmacy practice or equivalent
