Deputy Head of Stakeholder Relations

As Deputy Head of Stakeholder Relations the post holder will help to deliver an ambitious and effective stakeholder relations, government and parliamentary service within a high profile and fast paced communications directorate.

The post holder will be responsible for protecting and promoting the reputation of NHS England with key stakeholder groups including Royal Colleges, Trade Unions, Patient Representatives, Think Tanks, the Third Sector, statutory partners and other major national organisations.

Working with the Head of External Affairs the post holder will help to drive the provision of an efficient, professional and well co-ordinated external affairs service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements.

The stakeholder relations team leads on our outreach work to health sector partners, including professional and patient groups; plays a key role in linking external voices into NHS England’s policy making and communications work; manages stakeholder contact programmes for senior NHSE executives; and supports events including the direct management of the NHS Assembly.

Within the wider External Affairs team, the Stakeholder Relations team currently also works on stakeholder activity relating to workforce, urgent and emergency care, primary care, maternity care, and support to the NHS England Medical and Nursing Directorates.

The post holder will:

·       Work with the Head of External Affairs to manage the stakeholder relations and public affairs functions.

·       Line manage a team of four as well as providing project leadership within the wider External Affairs team.

·       Protect and promote the reputation of NHS England with key stakeholder groups

·       Use their health sector expertise, public policy knowledge and network building skills to help to deliver the best possible health services for NHS patients and the staff who care for them

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

The successful candidate will bring:

·       An extensive knowledge of stakeholder and parliamentary activities connected with the work of NHS England and NHS Improvement

·       Understanding of current healthcare policy and media environment and the implications for NHS England and our stakeholders

·       Ability to build good contacts within the NHS stakeholder world and support the team to grow its networks

·       Experience of managing a busy and committed team while supporting and developing team members

·       A vision for how to use stakeholder relations activity, including the NHS Assembly, to support and champion the delivery of NHS England’s Long Term Plan

·       Practical experience of running events and stakeholder networks

·       Experience of preparing senior figures for appearances at Select Committees and other high profile engagements

·       Experience of stakeholder and public affairs activities, ideally in the health sector, with the ability to set and push forward an ambitious and impactful engagement strategy for the External Affairs team and wider colleagues

·       Understanding of the stakeholder needs of charity sector organisations as they relate to NHS England

Salary Progression

Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8c with a full-time starting salary of £70,417, with a pay step increase after 5 years’ service.
 
For posts based in Inner London, the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 20% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £5,132 per annum and a maximum payment of £7,746 per annum.
 
This is offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and is based on office location.
