Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work within our welcoming, knowledgeable and innovative occupational health team. The postholder will provide a fast access service for NHS staff who would benefit from psychological assessment and therapy. NHS staff can often be at risk of emotional difficulties due to the nature of their work. The postholder will be responsible for the triage and assessment of NHS staff and determine where an in-house therapy is appropriate. The postholder would be part of an established multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapist, so would have the opportunity to contribute to meetings and service-related activity.  This will involve a combination of audits, e-learning, peer supervision and independent learning. We also have a robust Allied Health Professionals sub team, which will support the postholder’s development. The postholder would also be supported to tailor their skills to an NHS workforce and work closely with the other psychologists in Occupational Health.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the psychological assessment of NHS staff offering further intervention where suitable. This will predominantly be with individuals’ however psychological intervention with groups will also be required. The post holder will support the teaching and training activities of the wider therapies team. As part of the occupational health team, the post holder will be involved with multidisciplinary activity including service-related meetings and case discussion. The post holder will be actively involved with clinical governance requirements, including supervision, CPD, audit and evaluation.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology as accredited by a relevant professional body (e.g. British Psychological Society)
  • HCPC registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
  • Evidence of supervised clinical experience in therapeutic intervention and management of clients with emotional difficulties
  • Experience of work within interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary environments
  • Experience of teaching, training of other professional disciplines
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.

Skills and aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of at least two relevant theoretical models and psychological interventions relevant to patients with mental health conditions
  • Skilled in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non - professional groups.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and quantitative data analysis as practiced within the clinical/counselling fields of psychology
  • Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Familiarity with statistical databases
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to staff wellbeing and mental health
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the British Psychological Society/H CPC
  • Experience in service evaluation and development
