Civil Service: Senior Executive Officer (SEO)
Job overview
The Countermeasures Development Evaluation & Preparedness (CDEP) at Porton employs around 250 staff undertaking a wide range of research, including high-containment work. Activities include the discovery, development and evaluation of vaccines and therapeutics.
The Antigen Research Team (ART), within the Countermeasures Development, Evaluation and Preparedness Division, produces proteins to support vaccine, therapeutic and diagnostic programmes. The team designs genes, develops expression systems, purifies and characterises proteins, performs functional assays and collaborates with external partners on protein structure studies.

The postholder will design and compare assay approaches to identify the most effective detection strategy.
The SEO will analyse and present data, make informed decisions, and ensure robust experimental design to deliver project objectives. Working closely with ART colleagues, they will coordinate resources, maintain accurate records, implement quality control procedures, and support effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders while protecting UKHSA interests.
