We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, and proactive individual with excellent communication skills to join our welcoming and supportive inpatient Mental Health Team for older people, at Cross lane hospital, Scarborough. Could that be you?

We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable physiotherapist who can think holistically and creatively to deliver support and expertise to service users living with complex physical and psychological needs.

 

The right candidate will be offered flexibility in working within a dynamic friendly team and the chance to develop and apply their Physiotherapy knowledge and skills in varied duties that fit with their interests, aspirations and with service needs.

Main duties of the job

You must have a recognised BSC or MSc in Physiotherapy and be HCPC registered.

 Experience of working  in physiotherapy with older people and service users with mental health, learning disabilities  or complex needs, would also be an advantage and skills in supporting patients and assistants in their role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be an autonomous qualified physiotherapist providing assessment, treatment planning and provision for older people who have complex physical and mental health needs. You will be a member of a multi disciplinary team, working alongside a band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant and you will also work closely with other professions on the ward.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Post-graduate training relevant to the post (or willing to undertake within agreed timescale)
  • Accredited Clinical Educator (or willing to undertake within agreed timescale).
  • Clinical Supervisory Skills course (or willing to undertake within agreed timescale).
  • Trust training in Appraisal and Recruitment (within an agreed timescale)
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in Physiotherapy including experience working with service users and their carers/families in neurology, mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs.
  • Experience of supervising staff or students on placement
  • Experience of developing and delivering training
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of participation in quality improvement activities

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • National guidance and key standards in own specialist area
  • Health and Safety legislation and its application in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and its application in practice.
  • Awareness of moving and handling techniques and equipment
