Job overview

This role requires the post holder to be particularly innovative and entrepreneurial, using a wide range of skills. The role will require a strong grasp of marketing and sales techniques; strong communications skills and sound judgement in dealing with a wide range of stakeholders.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that fundraising is managed effectively. The role will have a responsibility for developing and implementing clear and effective fundraising strategies which continually benchmark well against best practice. 

Main duties of the job

Wide-ranging in its remit, the role will require close working with senior members of staff across the Health Board, and with a number of different community stakeholders, including businesses; influential individuals and leaders; local charities and fundraising groups, etc. All with a view to secure fundraising within the organisation.

The role will also require line manager responsibilities for two individuals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / MAIN TASKS

The post holder’s main duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1.    The post holder will hold a high profile role within the Health Board, and need to ensure that fundraising is lead effectively.

2.    The role will require an entrepreneurial outlook, developing innovative solutions and using a wide range of skills from a range of professions – such as marketing, sales and communications.

3.    The role will require attendance at the Health Board’s Charitable Funds Committee – a formal subcommittee of the Board. The post holder will be held to account directly by Independent Members and Executive Directors at this forum.

4.    To lead on developing, implementing, managing and reporting on an imaginative rolling fundraising strategy. This will require leading a strategy on a long term (5 to 10 years) as well as short term actions. By so doing, to plan and budget to achieve income and expenditure levels as presented to, agreed, and approved by, the Charitable Fund Committee.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to first degree level, achieving a 2:1 or above or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • Acknowledged professional qualifications
  • Membership of relevant professional organisation
  • A Masters degree in a relevant skill, such as marketing, communications, media, business etc.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 5 years proven experience within a fundraising environment.
  • Extensive experience of raising large sums from a wide range of charitable sources.
  • Previous experience of developing good relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and demonstrable gains from such relationships.
  • Previous experience of working with volunteers.
  • Extensive experience in dealing with the media, both in the traditional sense and with social media.
  • Experience in arranging large-scale events.
