Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Durham Tees Valley (DTV) Adult ADHD Team. This is the ideal time to become involved in Neurodiversity services; the profile and awareness of ADHD and neuro-developmental conditions have increased significantly in recent years. Alongside this the DTV Adult ADHD team has undergone change in the way that it works that will continue over the coming years, empowering mental health and learning disability teams to provide the right care at the right place and time for neurodivergent individuals.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based in the Adult ADHD Team working across the Durham and Tees Valley area. The ADHD Team are a friendly and passionate multidisciplinary team who have had specialist training and experience in understanding, identifying and supporting adults with ADHD. The team includes Nurses, Clinical Specialists, Administrators, a Pharmacist and a Consultant Physiatrist. The main roles of the team include undertaking diagnostic assessments, initiating treatment (where clinically appropriate) and providing post diagnostic support to those who receive an ADHD diagnosis. In addition, the service also provides specialist consultation and advice to teams across the Durham and Tees Valley Locality. This is a fantastic role for an experienced and passionate practitioner to work in neurodiversity services.

Working for our organisation

This post is full time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week.  Means to travel independently is required as this is a community post. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current professional registration with an approved professional body.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • For registered nurses: MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education. Must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Recognised sign-off mentor, clinical educator or equivalent. Must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership or management qualification
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
  • Providing clinical supervision to individuals or groups as professionally appropriate.
  • Mentoring or facilitating students on practice placement.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a care environment
  • Quality improvement activities

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable knowledge to post-graduate level of evidence-based practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
  • Knowledge of Neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice
  • Research and development methodology
  • Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment
