You’ll be joining the Integration and Development Team, reporting to the Enterprise and Application Architecture Manager, and be responsible for leading strategic technical initiatives—translating business needs into deliverable solutions and ensuring successful implementation and ongoing support across the Health Board.

We are looking for a proactive, results-driven individual who can overcome obstacles and remain focused in a fast-paced environment. You will use your influencing and communication skills to ensure ICT services are engaged in, and committed to, the change journey.

Main duties of the job

About the role
Lead the design, development and support of integration solutions across clinical and corporate systems using tools such as Visual Studio, JavaScript and NextGen Connect (Mirth). Act as a subject matter expert in interoperability and messaging standards, including HL7, FHIR and messaging technologies such as Kafka. Manage and develop a multidisciplinary team delivering integration, application development and support services.

Support Digital Data and Technology (DDaT) programmes by translating business requirements into effective technical solutions. Ensure system reliability, performance and compliance with information governance and security standards. Contribute to digital transformation initiatives and provide specialist advice to stakeholders on integration, clinical systems and applications. Oversee testing, deployment, training and ongoing system support.

A strong technical leader with experience in software development and system integration, including low-level communication and messaging protocols. Able to influence stakeholders and communicate complex concepts clearly. Proven leadership and team management skills with a focus on staff development.

Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise in a complex environment, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach with a passion for service improvement and innovation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In modern healthcare availability of information is key, if clinicians cannot see a whole view of the patient there are likely to be adverse outcomes. This role is to join a team building the infrastructure that ensures that as new systems are implemented they are supplied with the data feeds they need and able to contribute to local and national data stores. These system interactions are usually handled via healthcare standard messages (HL7, FHIR) however on occasion custom messaging is required and will be agreed with the supplier.

Experience:

  • Significant experience in software development, system integration, and application support
  • Proven track record of leading teams and delivering complex ICT or DDaT projects
  • Experience working within NHS, healthcare, or similarly complex environments
  • Strong understanding of interoperability standards and integration technologies
  • Demonstrable experience in change management and service improvement initiatives
  • Experience managing resources, budgets, and service delivery within an ICT setting
